Over 700,000 Member Union Backs Soria, Citing Her Commitment to Improving the Lives of Working Families
FRESNO – Today, SEIU California, a statewide organization with more than 700,000 members, endorses Esmeralda Soria for Congress. Citing her commitment to putting the interests of working families first, SEIU says Soria is the representative the Central Valley needs in Washington.
SEIU California also notes Soria’s support of expanding access and lowering the cost of health care.
“We know that skyrocketing health care costs are one of many reasons many working families are struggling, which is why Esmeralda’s focus on lowering prescription drug costs and expanding health care access to all is so important,” says SEIU 2015 President April Verrett. “We need her voice in Washington to fight for the interests of all working families.”
“I’m proud to support Esmeralda Soria for Congress because she is one of us,” says SEIU member Hilda Avitia. “She understands the struggles that we face every day as working people. Because of that, I know she will be a voice for us in Congress.”
“I am honored to have the endorsement of SEIU California,” says Esmeralda Soria. “I share the same goals with SEIU and its members of increasing economic fairness and creating ‘an equitable, just and prosperous California.’ I am committed to being a voice in Washington for all working families.”
Soria has a record of fighting for working families and economic opportunities for all, which is why she has already received the support of a number of labor unions. SEIU California joins IBEW Local 100, Sheetmetal Workers, Int’l Association 162, Carpenters 701 and Teamsters 431 in endorsing Soria for Congress.
Over 700,000 Californians make up SEIU in California; they work throughout the state, in all 58 counties, and represent California in all of its diversity. They are social workers, nurses, classroom aides, state workers, security officers, college professors, home care workers, janitors, doctors, and more.
